I think it's like... Pvt, Pfc, Lcpl, cpl, Sgt, Mastersergeant, uh, the ranks arn't like... uh... the same in all armies, so it can be like division sergeant in one and staff/master/groupsergeant in another... And from that point it starts to vary a lot. Actually, I really havn't got a clue, but I think this is it.

Maybe you could make it more interesting: The humans wanted more planets and so they attacked friendly aliens. These aliens had an alliance with some other aliens, which have a better weapon techonoly etc. The Private gets wouded in a fight with some of these, and gets prisoned by them. In the world of these aliens, he comprehends, that the aliens also are "like" humans and don't just kill. And he comprehends too, that the humans are the real evil in this world... and so on you know just an idea
