i've downloaded the maps from the download page, put them into "maps", dowloaded the 2 texure fils and put them into "texture", but i still cannot play the maps

Yeah, i had that problem too. The problem is, that the maps are supposed to be installed in Star Wars Republic Commando\Gamedata\Maps but the installer makes another map folder inside the map folder (Gamedata\Maps\Maps) and places the maps there. You've got to copy or move all the maps from the second maps folder into the original and overwrite, then it should work.
