Call of Duty: World at War Multiplayer Preview
The newest release of the Call of Duty series takes you back to World War 2 all over again, but this time into the pacific theatre. It promises a new WW2 experience in the single player, and a multiplayer mode better than Call of Duty 4. I got my hands on the exclusive Call of Duty: World at War Multplayer Beta to play and test the hell out of it. The question is: Can it hold up to it's promise?
When you play CoD5 you will imedialty recognise a strong simularity to CoD4, which is not a bad thing! You still have a full featured ranking system, a class editor, the same game-modes, a prestige mode and the overall gameply plays out pretty much the same.
This doesn't mean there are no changes though. Treyarch added 2 more game-modes: Capture the Flag and a brand new entry: War. In War its all about capturing a row of controll points and pushing the enemy back untill all points are captured. This mode isn't realy a new invented one, because it's been obviously copied from Day of Defeat Source. More changes are present with the amount of classslots increased by each 1 when completed the prestige mode and a brand new perk class: The vehicle perks. Those give you the edge when driving a tank, which is also a new feature. The last thing added is a brand new gore system, similar to Brothers in Amrs: Hell's Highway to add more realism to the gameplay.
But besides all these additions and increases there are some balance issues found ingame. Tanks for example are the total uber weapons, making you nearly invincible when being in one. If you than also have the rght vehicle perk, its time for the other players to say their preys. The weapons are also not quiet balanced, with the bigest difference between automatic and semi automatic rifles. There are even Bolt Action Rifles, which i don't recommend, unless you have a sniper scope. The problem is: You have to unlock this one by killing enemys with the rifle you want it on. Another issue comes with the maps: It often happens that you spawn right into a swarm of enemys and be instantly killed or spawn into enemy artillery fire. We are looking forward to the other maps, included in the final version of the game.
Call of Duty: World at War's multiplayer is incredebly well done! It has some flaws here and there, but if you count in the highly rewarding combat and the multiple customisation options, all this is forgiven. I am looking forward to get my hands on the final retail version on Novebmer 11th and review it as soon as possible.
