this is the second episode of my reviews on free games. In the previous one I dealt with the vehicle simulation "Rigs of Rods", if you missed it and want to read it either, you can do it here!

In this review I'll deal with the first person shooter "Americas Army 3" (AA3). The special thing about AA3 is, that it's not a game by e.g. EA featuring US Soldiers to play, but it is a game by the US Army in order to give people an understanding of the US Army, and this is what makes the game special (more regarding this later). The following trailer will give you a first impression of the game:
My review is supposed to give you the inforamtion, which I'll think of that they're most important. Namly these are:
• Graphics
• Gameplay
• Single-/Multiplayer

The developers of Americas Army made big steps from the second version of the game, to the current AA3. If you're watching a gameplay video of the game, not knowing that it is AA3, you'll never think that this was a free game. Compared to games like BFBC 2, it's of course standart, but you have to pay for these games. Using high settings on an average computer the game runs fluently without any laggs, and as already mentioned, with a nice overall appereance, especially on non-city maps.

Gameplay
Gameplay
Even if there is not a "real" singleplayer mode for Americas Army 3, the developers worked on a story the game is based on. The Country of "Czervania" attacked the "Republik Demokratzny za ta Ostregals" due to jealousy on their development & wealth gained within the last period of time. While the country developed, the politicians missed it to strengthen it's military forces which makes them call for a help in the international community ...
(Read the full story here !) AA3 features 4 playable classes, with 4 different weapons:
- • Rifleman
• Automatic Rifleman
• Grenadier
• Squad Designated Marksman
Rating: 7/10

Single-/Multiplayer
Single-/Multiplayer
Some of you might ask now, why the Czervanian Army can't be played: the game has been developed to recruit new people for the US Army, that's why you can fight as US Soldier only, even if you're on Multiplayer, the enemy team will be displayed as Czervanian Army, but so are you for them.
Well, as I already mentioned, AA3 doesn't really have a Singleplayer. The "missions" available in the singleplayer mode are training/tutorial missions. These trainings show you how to use the featured weapons, & how to do stuff later. These trainings have to be played, otherwise there's just one weapon available for you. On the one hand it's good to know to use the weapons, but on the other hand some trainings are annoying due to the fact that your "teacher" talks to much, especially during the "lesson" in which you learn how to revive & heal teammates.
The multiplayer mode forms the game itself. Featuring 5 maps in a land based, industry, city and village style as well as a city divided by a bridge, there is a big variety, even if some more maps would have been appreciated. The game has 6 different game modes, namly:
- • VIP
• Activated Object
• Carryable Object
• Assault
• Take & Hold
• Classic
Rating: 9.5/10

Overall Conclusion:
Overall Conclusion:
After watching a gameplay video for the game you might be sceptic thinking "This? For Free?", but after you downloaded the game you'll see it is for free, and as good as it was displayed in the video. Like every other game, also AA3 has some bugs, mostly it's not that bad, but if your weapon buggs it's just annoying. Sadly the developers excluded vehicles in AA3, which is hardly understandable since this game has been made to represent the US Army, and vehicles, such as tanks, are an important part. Furthermore the time taken for the download (3 - 4 hours) was really long. Anyway AA3 includes a lot of realistic things, but which doesn't make the game complicated, aside from that it's not only senseless shooting, as you have to play tactically to reach your goal. Americas Army 3 is one of the best (or the best?) first person shooter, available for free and can definately compete with it's with costs equivalents. The download is definately worth it, even if it takes that long !
Rating: 8/10
