Call of Duty is only fast when you play Promod. The normal gameplay is relatively slow.

The gamespeed is dependent by the players, the maps, the weapons the players use, obviously the mod.
Non-Mod can also be very fast like Promod.

I am talking about the general speed compared to other games like Unreal, Counter Strike, Quake, Halo or even RepCom. And compared to some of htem the gameplay in CoD4 is rather slow, but still faster than Battlefield for example.
