Re: Football Topic

Post by Pricey »

Mark Hughes today admitted it was "flattering" to be linked with the Bayern Munich job following reports he was their number one target to replace Louis van Gaal.

But Hughes insisted he had no intention of quitting Fulham this summer as he was loving life at Craven Cottage.

Hughes is reportedly top of a three-man shortlist to succeed Van Gaal - who was told last week his contract was not being renewed - and is up against Bayer Leverkusen's Jupp Heynckes and former Germany captain Matthias Sammer.

"It's very flattering but I'm quite happy doing what I'm doing at the moment," said the Cottagers boss, who played for Bayern on loan from Barcelona in the late 1980s.

"Sometimes, when a job becomes vacant then people look around to see whether there are any connections in terms of past playing careers or whatever.

"I think there's no more in it than that."

Hughes boasts an impressive managerial record, having boosted the fortunes of Wales, Blackburn and Manchester City, who controversially sacked him just over a year ago.

He has also overcome a difficult start at Fulham to stabilise them in mid-table in the Barclays Premier League, something which has not gone unnoticed.

The 47-year-old, who is under contract until the end of next season, admitted managing overseas was on his long-term agenda.

"If opportunities in the future present themselves, I think it would be part of my football education and something that I'd want to do," he said.

"But I'm not looking to do it at the moment.

He added: "I'm enjoying my work. I think it's a great club and we're going in the right direction.

"Certainly, if we can invest more in the players next year as well then I think we can kick on."

Hughes was confident his spending power would not be weakened by the club's latest accounts, which this week showed they had made a loss of £16.9million, up £10million from the previous year.

"Those losses I don't think were unexpected, so they'll be factored in," said Hughes.

"I don't think it'll have any impact on what I want to do in the summer."

Money is inevitably tight at Fulham and Hughes may need to get players off the wage bill to help raise cash to spend when the transfer window re-opens.

Sometimes it is a matter of taste, but in the case of ManU you just can not say they play boring.

Wow, Pricey just posted something to actually discuss about and you guys gotta start the trolling again

Well Pricey, I doubt that this article has anything to do with reality. First of all English coaches are not exactly what foreign Clubs are looking for, and also there has been NOTHING about Mark Hughes and Bayern in the German media. According to many sources Jupp Heynkes, whose contract in Leverkusen runs out and who's a very good friend of Uli Hoeneß, is the top candidate to replace Louis van Gaal. His inability to make a clear statement about his future situation further indicates that.

Jupp Heynckes would be a good choice I think. I also thought about Felix Maggath to replace Van Gaal but that is very unlikely to happen in my opinion.

ManU are not playing boring, they are not doing an awesome football, but it works perfectly, 1 action, 1 goal.

Barça's every posts news :
Fontas will replace Abidal in the group, and he may join the first team next year.
An article about him : http://www.totalbarca.com/2011/news/fon ... -defender/
"Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, given a chance to climb, they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is."

Heynckes, Magath.. Thought they wanted Löw but that he couldn't come until after the EC in Poland/Ukrain? I doubt they'd take Magath, he's already been workin for Bayern.. 5 years ago or so? Prolly little more, doesn't change that he's a moaner...

You're basing 1 game this season on how enjoyable Manchester United are to watch? Okay..

Yeah I know that there's not much in it, but I just thought I'd share it. Hughes is a great manager, he could do well at Bayern Munich. I wish more British Managers seeked work abroad.

don't have sky sports and group phase ManU isn't relevant enough for tv here, since they can only show 2 matches every round... always 1 dutch team, 1 team attractive to lot of dutch people.

"Chapi" Ferrer.
He may become Barça B coach, but i don't think he will become it.
Strange to see a supporter of a club like Vitesse, but we can see you're supporter not for the rank.
