both of them can pass etc, and I wouldn't say Schwein or Sahin are good at breaking attacks.. if they were then why would Bayern look for 'a van Bommel?' Cus they're needed, and Schweini isn't the best at the defending partRidley wrote:A modern central midfielder has to do more than simply stop the opponent though. He has to direct the flow of the match, distribute the ball to his teammates, feature a high amount of tactical understanding and intelligance in his plays, be able to play a deadly pass and be good at his defending role, while representing a certain amount of damnger himself.Foxy wrote:either way it stops an attack, thats what u have a cdm for ^^
in his role, Bommel & de Jong are way better than Schweini
Types like de Jong, van Bommel or Busquets are good at reading the game and stopping the other team's attacking game, but they lack in the playmaking and goalthread department.
Players like Sahin, Ession or Schweinsteiger just got it all, you could call them complete midfielders. They have just the right ballance between offensive and defensive play. They take pressure off their own defence, direct the game and have a go at it themselves once in a while.

Also Essien isn't a man of the assists or goals, ye he can shoot but how often does he score? First cdm that's decisive and a great breaker is yet to be found?
