sony vegas looks very good though, and I am getting a trial for adobe after effects

Just watch/read some tutorials, will get the basics covered. Then it is about experimentation with what you have learnt.

By you saying your not "advanced" enough means you want to start basic, if you are starting off why not start with something good? Then you will be a pro withouht being a novice.

Minimal editing definitely works best with poor video quality.

Pretty good gameplay as well.

Also, not really any point rendering your video in 720p when using a sub-hd capture device.
