harddrive problem
back for 5 minutes and already I need support...
aiiight, I just returned from my flight and now my main external harddrive is being a bitch:
Maxton - One Touch - 500 gb
I got a steady flashing of the upper part of the LED touch button, my computer doesn't see or recognize it but it seems to start up properly. It's about 3 on&offs a second - so quite fast.
Thanks for anyone who can give me help on this.

Re: harddrive problem
Maybe unnormal noises? Like 'scratching' or something?

[18:30] -=TAG=-Snoop: Okay, Thank you, and sorry for interrupting your ingenious laboratory work Professor Vash.

Re: harddrive problem
only in the beginning, but it did that every time. Once it's run a few seconds its quiet.

Re: harddrive problem
How old is that drive?

[18:30] -=TAG=-Snoop: Okay, Thank you, and sorry for interrupting your ingenious laboratory work Professor Vash.

Re: harddrive problem
I'm not sure, got it from my father... maybe 3 yrs?

Re: harddrive problem
Afaik you were using it for a really long time every day ... every hard disk can die sometime.

[18:30] -=TAG=-Snoop: Okay, Thank you, and sorry for interrupting your ingenious laboratory work Professor Vash.

Re: harddrive problem
alright, I talked to my dad and it could've been like 6 years... possibly.
I read I could try to build out the actual harddrive and try to run it as an internal harddrive in a pc to get all the data off, do you think there is such a way?

Re: harddrive problem
If the drive is damaged it doesn't matter how you connect it to your computer ... the data will be gone. You really didn't backup your files on a newer drive after so long time??

[18:30] -=TAG=-Snoop: Okay, Thank you, and sorry for interrupting your ingenious laboratory work Professor Vash.

Re: harddrive problem
I bought a Buffalo server but my last backup is like 30 days ago...
well sucks for me

Re: harddrive problem
That's called NAS (Network Attached Storage).
