I dabbled me in making a new montage, i think it is a better one as my old one but it could be way better so it would be cool if you criticize my montage that i can make a better one next time ;)

Hey 1Step!

First of all, I'm kinda glad that there are some people out there who are still doing republic commando montages!
I know it's not easy to do a good one. I've never really done any good ones too, but everybody should always give it a try.
I watched your movie and want to give you some feedback. Maybe you can improve and surprise the audience with your next montage. Gameplay movies should always entertain the spectator... sorry but in this point you totally failed.
There is no real rhythm, the sound doesn't fit to your gameplay, there aren't any special effects like "third person view", camera movement through maps or anything like that. Also there aren't any spectacular kills.

To sum up:

Some aspects I liked:
- A recorded RTG
- the movie is long enough
- music
- you captured a scrim or an intern


Some aspects I didn't like:
- only 3 or 4 different maps
- no syncronizing gameplay (the soundtrack doesn't fit to the kills, shots and/or gameplay)
- no WOW effects
- nothing new or special
- kills aren't good enough to entertain the viewer
- the video's quality isn't good
- video is not in full large (possible with Sony vegas)
- No color effects/ filters
- The rtg is boring, it just takes too long
- only one soundtrack
- the intro/outro is boring
- the flashing xfire icon is crap (use panorama cropping to correct this)
- You use the sniper only, try also kills with other weapons to give the montage some variety

Maybe I forgot something. This is what I've catched so far... If you have any questions or anything you can pm me, ask me in xfire or ask me right here, I'll try to answer as soon as possible!
1 Step you shouldn't give up even although there are more negative points than positive. But this is my point of view of course!
Your next montage will be better, I'm pretty sure! :-)

easy things to do to make it better next time:
- get high fps- gameplay( xfire capturing to 100 fps in settings)
- right cropping, easiest thing to do just pan/crop it right(dozens of tuts for it)
- right rendering( too many tuts already)
- first 30 secs were just like a black screens, be more creative when it comes down to intros watch other movies( cod4, css, ql, etc)
- what you guys are making is rather a ( nice kills, on- spot sync, transitions, a nice cc)
- songchoice is also quite important because what you made would have been the same without the song what
cba listing more as there´s plenty other stuff
still, what you made wasnt really anything interesting, i´m sorry

Hey =)
look at the rendering details and at the recording settings, you could fix something there for HD video, looks way better. The color correction wouldn't be necessary with this quality. Also agree with Acer, try to synchronize sound and video, the RTG takes too much time and some 'cooler' kills would be nice!

After I have read Syndi's answer I thought: mhmmm, maybe he hasnt got enough money to buy such equipment ...
But okay ... you used a programm which is actually a way too complicated.
Maybe you should use Sony Vegas and make sure your recording quality is better.

I agree with Viva, Acer & so on.

Anyway, nice to see ppl who are making repcom montages :)

We didn't talk about AE. Furthermore AE isn't a video cutting programm. Normally you use it for Special Effects, Compositing and so on.
